The detail is outstanding but never harsh - well except with poor, harsh recordings, it is relaxed and neutral as well as very natural sounding. The mids come out smooth and textured but not boring or artificial. And the bass is tight and beautiful.

As for soundstaging and imaging - the image is huge and places the instrumnts in their place without blurring them or smearing the image.

We think the 808.3 is top of the list for high end cd only players. Simply put, the 808.3 is outstanding.

808.2 inherits Meridian’s 25-year tradition of award-winning players, yet sets a whole new benchmark. Most significant is a new, proprietary digital upsampling filter system developed by Meridian and included for the first time in the new 808.2, which adds a new accuracy and clarity to CD replay – even correcting digital faults in the original recording.The 808.2 also includes Meridian's SpeakerLink single-wire interconnect system.

The 808.2 is available as a player only, with digital and analogue outputs, or with a built-in preamp (as the 808i.2) with multiple digital and analogue inputs.
