The Mini Dragon planar magnetic speakers are sleek and elegant, housed in adjustable, collapsible, aircraft-grade anodized aluminum frames. You won’t have to turn them up loud for full-range, full-impact sound; they’ll do that at any SPL level with spectacular sound and imaging. How so? Conventional dynamic-driver speakers propagate outwards in all directions, diffracting off speaker cabinets and reflecting sound from nearby surfaces. These reflected soundwaves bounce back and crash into each other causing interfering peaks and nulls at the listening position. That means more distortion and a higher noise floor that limits dynamics. By contrast sound emanating from a planar magnetic source coherently propagates along the axis of the originating plane – like a laser beam – interfering far less with surrounding surfaces resulting in much less distortion. Results are more dynamic lifelike sound with astounding imaging and soundstaging that effortlessly draws you into the music.
The Mini Dragons’ planar driver is ultra-efficient and require only few watts to generate normal listening levels. As a purely resistive load, the DFA Mini Dragons can be driven by a wide variety of high-end audio amplifiers. For best performance Dragonfire recommends the DFA MD-4 amplifier with built-in advanced DAC/DSP/Crossover.
